Khao Rang or Rang Hill is the most popular viewpoint in Phuket Town located in Korsimbee Road. It is a small hill situated in the northwest side of Phuket Town. The road read to the viewpoint is tortuous and sloping; yet the abundant city forest surrounds it. At the top of the hill there is a small park for relaxing and playing sports. Not far from the park, there is a shelter where visitors sit and see the bird eyes view of Phuket. Since the hill has a natural atmosphere, there are many restaurants and coffee shops opened in its area. And the hill is also the location of the Phraya-Rassada-Nupradit-Mahit-Sornpakdee’s monument (Korsimbee Na Ranong), the Phuket-governor.

Phuket Town was settled by Chinese merchants who migrated fromm nearby Penang to set up bussinesses over a hundred years ago. The island was prosperous even then from revenues from tin mining and robber plantations. These Chinese merchants built extravagant home and offices in the Sino-Portuguese style which developed centuries ago in the active trading port of Malacca. Three hundred years ago, even Phuket had a community of Portuguese traders living on the island. They not only brought the chili peper with them, but they brought their architecture, must of which can be seen only in Phuket Town.
